An anonymous source close to the Michigan basketball program has informed me that Darius Morris will enter the 2011 NBA Draft. The source said, “He is gone. He signed.” The source said that Morris has signed with Leon Rose and it is Rose and Morris’s belief that the talented point guard will be taken towards the end of the first round in this years draft. It is believed that Morris’s rise to a likely first round prospect can be attributed to players like Harrison Barnes and Jared Sullinger opting to forgo the NBA for one more year in college.
Morris’s departure will be a big blow for a Wolverine program that was expected to take the next step towards being a true Big Ten title threat in the 2011-2012 season. Trey Burke, the incoming freshman point guard, will have a ton more pressure on his shoulders once Morris’s decision is made public. Burke will be expected to come in and provide instant playmaking ability at the point guard spot. Luckily, Michigan has plenty of other veteran talent returning and Tim Hardaway Jr. should be able to continue his rise to stardom.
